Create
Streaming Video
With A Little Technical Know-How
If
you need to
create streaming video, there are a few specialized software
and
hardware pieces required. Depending on your use, the
cost
can be relatively inexpensive to very costly.
Here,
we will discuss some of the basic equipment
needed create a
streaming video. This can include video
camera tripod,
video camera, and a video capture card.
Creating a video stream would also depend on the location where you
shoot as you might require an extra microphone along with additional
lighting.
The simplest route (and less expensive) would be simply to use
a webcam attached to your computer to capture the video
image. This does, of course, limit your range to close
proximity of your computer.
On the other hand, a video
camera would give you more freedom of movement and
would
also provide a convenient storage source for the recorded material.
Create Streaming
Video Process
- You can pick up an inexpensive digital
camcorder or digital camera in just about any electronics store today.
- They are ideal for creating streaming videos.
If
it is within your budget, it is the best option as the recorded
material can be directly transferred to your computer for storage and
editing.
- You can also use old analog video cameras, but
you will then
have to transfer the recorded material to a digital domain before
streaming it.
- This transferring would also result in loss of
image
quality.
- Your digital camcorder should feature optical
zoom and must
include digital connection in order to transfer the video to your
computer.
Video Camera
Tripod
- A video camera tripod
is important when you create streaming video as it helps
to stabilize the
video image which thereby helps when compressing the video file for
uploading.
- The video compression functions by eliminating
parts of
video image which repeat from frame to frame.
- A tripod would help you
avoid problems like constant moving of background image in the hand
held video camera.
Video Capture
Card
- This video
capture card allows you to create streaming video and acts as
the connector from your camcorder to the
computer.
- A
few computers include a FireWire-type Port.
- This allows you
to capture your video in the digital video format and then
just
plug the camcorder
to the FireWire port and the video would be transferred to the hard
drive of your computer.
- If you use an analog source then it
should be converted to digital format.
- You can install a capture card
which accepts the input of analog source to your computer or you can
also use an external device which captures and converts your analog
videos so that it can be easy to transfer them to the computer through
the USB or FireWire.
- The video capture card that is installed on
your
computer does much more than just capturing videos.
- There are a few
cards that offer real time effect or real time output while others can
enhance the image of the video which is captured.
Microphones
and Lighting
- If you choose to create streaming
video outdoors and/or have several
sounds to be captured then you can use an external microphone or a
camcorder that includes microphones.
- A few of the latest digital
camcorders also capture videos without any external lighting.
- However,
a properly lit studio would give your streaming video a professional
touch.
