How to Stream
Audio:
5 Steps to Success
Learn how to stream audio files for others to access on your
website?
Is your goal to become the next Napster or Yahoo Google
Player?
To achieve this you need to have your own equipment or sign up to a streaming media hosting
provider.
Some online
music websites that already allow you
to take full advantage of streaming audio include:
- Napster – online music service
- iTunes – online music service
- WinAmp – online music listening
- Yahoo Launch Rhapsody- online music listening
- Google Music Player – online music listening
What
is streaming audio and how to stream audio, anyway? Streaming audio is
format for playing audio
files over the Internet. These files come to your computer or other
device as MP3 files.
Streaming audio arrives in real time making
difficult to copy. Types of electronic
devices that receive these MP3
files include:
- iPod
- MP3 Players
- Cell Phones
- Computers
- Satellite radios
How
to stream audio and what equipment do you need? The following is
only the basic list to begin:
- A high end computer with a large Hard Drive and
lots of RAM
- Access to high bandwidth to upload files to
your website
- A dedicated server website that is not shared
with other users
Specifically
you will also need some quality equipment, to include:
- You will need some extra storage on
your hard drive
- Original recording of song (CD, Tape, Live)
- Cable to connect CD/Tape/Microphone to
computers sound card
- Encoding software
- Dedicated
streaming
server space with large bandwidth
- Encoding Software, such as:
- Any other equally good software
If you skimp on any of these
three items you will only result in a poor quality product and few will
want to listen. This is the most expensive investment you will make to
have the ability to have your own streaming audio website.
Some basic
steps on how to stream audio include:
Step 1:
- Record the music onto your computer from your
music
source through the computer’s sound card and record an audio file. You
need to be a room that is free of extraneous sound. The dog barking,
cell phone ringing, or airplane flying low overhead will be recorded as
noise in the music file.
Step 2:
- Using encoding software, convert the music file
to a
WAV file. This is a standard file for music sharing.
Step 3:
- Eliminate the noise that is embedded in your
WAV file
from the computers sound card. If you invested in one of the three
recommended encoding software programs listed above you are lucky,
because these programs automatically eliminate extraneous noise. If not
then you will need a program that presents the WAV file in video form
for you to manually remove the noise. Recommend the easier version.
Step 4:
- Compress the WAV file into a MP3 file using the
encoding software listed above.
Step 5:
- Upload MP3 file to you website.
Although
the steps appear to be simplistic, they really are not for the
beginner. However, like everything else practice makes perfect.
After
you work the kinks of the system, you will be developing your own new
Napster or Yahoo Google Player streaming audio service that will become
the latest rage over the Internet.
