It

Macromedia Breeze was
recently bought out by Adobe Acrobat and is now called Adobe Acrobat
Connect and the Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional.
Adobe
Acrobat
Connect allows you to prepare Microsoft Power Point presentations to
make them more accessible to everyone.
This provides the ability to
publish power point presentations on the internet for those with
physical handicaps to view. Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional has
three
additional features:
- Adobe Connect Training – web training modules
- Adobe Connect Events – online training and
conferences
- Adobe Presentations – training materials
Macromedia Breeze provides the ability to have
professional web conferencing without the need for participating
individuals to be required to have the Adobe Acrobat Connect software.
The only
software they are required to have is Adobe Flash Player on their
computer, which is pre-loaded on most computers purchased today.
When
AA Connect files are saved for publishing on the Internet, they are
saved as Shock Wave Flash (SWF) files easily recognizable by Adobe
Flash Player.
Macromedia Breeze provides
the ability to:
- Text chat between participants
- Use a white board for saving and communicating
ideas
- Have
quality sound by using VoIP Audio – Voice over Internet Protocol
When using Macromedia Breeze and Adobe Acrobat Connect
with Power Point you will need a microphone to record your words that
are presented on each slide of the presentation to allow those who are
sight challenged to hear the presentation.
This provides what is termed
as text equivalents.
Not only can you have sound for text equivalents,
you can have visual reader adaptations for those who are hearing
impaired.
For versions that are on the Internet or will be used for
presentations to physically challenged individuals you should avoid:
- Transitions in the slide, such as sweeping a
bullet in from the top.
- When a transition occurs the voice recording
will begin to repeat the
whole slide over again.
- You can see how this would cause problems if
every bullet has a transition.
- Avoid the use of animations, unless you can
adequately describe what
the animation is trying to depict in the slide.
The
advantage of Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional is that it allows
businesses or training institutions to:
- Prepare customized presentations for multiple
locations to save on
expensive software and hardware applications
- Have multiple users involved all around the
world at the same time
- Record minutes of meeting
- Poll
participants at multiple locations for responses to questions and
feedback
- Maintain a
central library of training, conferences, and meeting for archival
purposes
Adobe Acrobat Connect also have strong
implications for use in higher education. Professors can
prepare
presentations to be placed on websites that are designed to meet the
needs of physical handicapped individuals.
Not only can you have sound
for text equivalents, you can have visual reader adaptations for those
who are hearing impaired. Other
considerations for use include:
- Conduct quizzes on line for multiple locations
at the same time using
the polling technique for responses
- Conduct online surveys for multiple locations
using the polling
technique
