Screen Recorder and Capturing
Web Meetings and Webinars

Screen recorder is method of recording web meetings and webinars for use at a future date. It can also be used for recording information sent over the Internet through a computer network that is known as screen casts.

Recording web meetings software is an advanced form of what used to be known as screen capture, although this term is still used when referring to screen recording.

This software records everything that takes place on the computer screen and saves it in an audio/video file.

This method of recording on screen action, especially when demonstrating how to do specific steps, is much better than using a series of screen shots.

Using screen capturing software allows the end user to record the screen cast.

Screen recorders not only capture the images associated with a screen cast, it also captures the audio files that are necessary to understand what is occurring.

Web meetings are typically recorded for future use and reference. This is accomplished through the use of dedicated recorder software.  Webinars are recorded in the same manner.

Screen capturing software allows these events to archived or used for people who were unable to attend the original meeting.  Uses include:
  • Used by software engineers to demonstrate new software to others who are located in other, buildings, cities, or countries.
    • The demonstration is recorded using screen capturing software by those observing the demonstration, so that they can try out the new software for themselves.
  • Used by educational institutions to make possible computer-based training.
  • Screen recordings can be transferred to files for attachment to e-mails, known as video e-mails.
  • Can be sent out as podcasts to targeted individuals to support sales.
  • Can be transferred to DVDs for distribution to employees, customers, or stock holders.
  • The development of training videos for new and current employees on how to use a software application.
  • Create movies for tutoring complex procedures for completing a specific task.
  • Record events that happened on the computer as a virtual memo of what needs to be done.
  • Record multimedia presentations that where given over the Internet for retransmission over television.
The ability to take a live online seminars and use screen capture software to record the seminar, provides the ability to share the information with a much wider audience than can be crowded around computer screen.

Even with the use computer LCD projectors, the viewing is only ideal for those that are not on the edges or in the back.

Screen capture software is typically easy to install and easy to use. To begin recording usually involves the pressing of a key on the key board start and pressing the same key to stop the recording.

Some typical features of screen software include:
  • Recording is compressed into AVI files
  • Use of microphone to narrate key aspects of the recording
  • Ability to record only a portion of the computer screen or entire screen
  • Create demonstrations from the recordings
  • Organize screen recordings
  • Send AVI files via e-mail
