Video Blogging
Is On The Rise

Video blogging is not all that much different from an ordinary blog. The obvious difference is the addition of a video as the source of content.

Typical characteristics of video blogs
  • Presentations often include some sort of embedded video links or videos.
  • The video links sometimes also include supporting texts, images or other sorts of metadata.
  • Many video blog sites available on the internet are collaborative ventures with the majority of the blog entries authored by individual users.
Video blogs are also referred to as vlogs, vblogs and vblogging. The web syndication advantage is often taken by the blogs and is done to allow the distribution of videos over the net.

Blogging with vidoe is quite often distributed through the use of really simple syndication which is popularly known as RSS, or by the use of the atom syndication formats.

This is done for the automatic playback or aggregation on the devices like the mobile phones and personal computers.

Concept of Video Blogging
  • The term vlogging or the concept of video blogging was introduced (in standard video form) for the ordinary blogging process.
  • It is now considered as an expansion of the video bulletins and diaries.
  • During the 1980’s the use of the video cameras took off.
  • People became more interested in making video diaries through the use of the video cameras.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was one of the first to start monitoring the increased use of video recording in a social environment.

Soon after, a program was established in which random citizens were given Hi-8 video cameras.

These people were asked to film their lives throughout an entire year.

The people filmed their every day lives.

The video program under which the videos were shown was known as the Video Nation.

The BBC received a very positive response and collected some 10,000 video tapes.  Out of the 10,000 tapes almost 1300 shots were edited by the corporation and were shown publicly on the television.

The first of the videos to be shown was named as the mirror and was filmed by Gordon Hencher. The viewing figures of the show were also very high.

The figures ranged to about 9 million. The popularity of the show led to the origination of some themed video nation series.

And the birth of video blogging pursued.
