Webinars: Internet
Based
Alternative Seminar Program
Webinars
are one-way online seminars or workshops that are presented from a
central location.
These can be accomplished using a number of software
programs to bring people together for meetings, training, or seminars
for a variety of reasons.
The main advantage for this program is that
no one needs to travel to a central location to participate.
This is especially advantageous when employees are scattered around the
world or you work from home and you do not need to go into the office.
Web seminars
provide the ability to upload supporting materials for participants to
download at their location.
This allows everyone to have a copy of
discussion points or review materials in their hands during the online
session.
These documents can then be kept for reference. Also, this
allows participants to participate in seminars at their convenience, if
not capable of attending during specified times.
A typical
web-based seminar may be an online training course that will run for a
specific
period of time. All discussions using the discussion board technique
for a webinar.
During this time materials
are uploaded and participants
review, for example:
- Ten week
web seminar with the topic being Safety in the Work Place
- Week one – Participants review videos or other
materials on the Webinar
and then spends a period of time reviewing week one materials.
- After
reviewing materials, participants rejoin the seminar to continue
additional viewing of materials.
- All remaining weeks in the Webinar are
conducted in the same fashion.
- Guest speakers and key business executives can
participate as their
schedule permits and does not tie them to a specific place and time
that they may not be able to attend.
- This is possible because their
presentation is archived.
- Links to other documents on Internet
websites can be
included to provide a distinct advantage for using this
Internet resource.
Webinars can be
archived for up to a year at the central location conducting the
webinar.
Remote sites can retain as long as they desire. Web seminars
allow
businesses to save on scarce travel resources for seminars and when it
is impractical to arrange a meeting for large groups over a period of
time.
The keys to holding a
successful online seminars are:
- Preparation, preparation, preparation!
- Power point presentations need to be rehearsed
to ensure the desired
presentation will come across the Internet.
- Provide a reliable method of assessing the
effectiveness of the webinar.
- Presentation is not above or below the level of
the intended audience.
- Allow built in time for feedback form
participants as the webinar is in
progress.
Webinars can be designed for
most any training, conference, or meeting session.
For a business that
is in training services, you can prepare webinar training programs and
sell them to your customer base.
Additionally you can sell them over
the Internet from your company’s website or through other online
advertising outlets. Participants would be required to register in
advance for webinars that are conducted live.
Also they can register
for webinars that are available anytime day or night, because they will
not be conducted live.
Examples of different
uses of online seminars include:
- Training on a
new software program
- Training
on new accounting procedures
- Training on how to install new software
- Seminar on new best practices in Internet tools
- Training on pretty much any topic
